The 16th season of Formula Drift kicked off in Long Beach, CA this past weekend and on display was Vaughn making it known his Mustang RTR Spec 5-D will be one of the cars to beat this season. Despite the exceptional off-season progress by his RTR team, a few hiccups would result in Vaughn being knocked out in the Top 16 by, eventual second-place finisher, Forrest Wang. However, the feeling by Vaughn, and his team, leaving the track was nothing, but excitement for the season ahead.
Chelsea celebrated his 31st birthday the only way he knows how, behind the wheel of his Spec 5-D at the Formula Drift season opener Saturday. However, Chelsea wasn’t the only one on the track with a birthday as he shares the day with fellow driver Chris Forsberg and the two would meet in the Top 16. Ultimately, Chris would best Chelsea in the “Birthday Battle” en route to his podium finish. Gaining substantial driving time Chelsea and his team were able to gain valuable insight into the car and come away feeling like they have a car capable of reaching the podium every round.
Next up for Vaughn and Chelsea is Formula Drift at Orlando Speedworld April 26th and 27th.
